The Service Monitor window

When you open Service Monitor, a window appears showing a list of the monitors you have created to keep watch over your computer's services.

Each monitor watches an individual service. If your computer is providing multiple services, you can create multiple monitors.

• The check box next to each monitor's name lets you enable or disable the monitor.

Note: When a monitor is first enabled, it will perform its first check after a random interval based on the "Check services every x seconds" preference. This keeps monitors from all checking at once when Service Monitor is first launched.

• The "New Monitor" button displays a sheet that lets you configure a monitor to watch a desired service. See Creating monitors for more information.
• The "Test" button causes the selected monitor to immediately connect to its service. A sheet appears showing the results of this communication.

Tip: This function is useful when you make a new monitor, to ensure that the monitor's settings are correct.

• The "Edit" button displays a sheet that lets you change the selected monitor's settings. See Types of monitors for more information on the settings.
• The "Delete" button lets you delete a selected monitor.
• The "?" button displays the Service Monitor help.

If you click this window's close box, Service Monitor will quit.
