To install the PowerKey software, double-click on the "Install PowerKey" icon. Click "Install" to install the software. After installation, you should restart your computer.
IMPORTANT: If you encounter errors during the installation process, you may need to disable any antivirus software, then try the installation again.
For PowerKey Pro Model 200 only:
If you are installing the Server Restart OptionTM ("SRO") into a PowerKey Pro Model 200, you must do a Custom Install. Follow the instructions found in the "READ ME - Server Restart Option".
Note: If the SRO is already installed in your PowerKey Pro, you do not need to reinstall it, and this option will not be available in the installer. Simply use the Easy Install process described above.
- Added multiple AppTimers for PowerKey Pro. The PowerKey software now keeps a separate timer for each application that sets it. "When Timer Expires" Events will now execute when any one application stops setting their AppTimer. See the "READ ME - Server Restart Option" document for more information.
- Added support for Rebound! If Rebound! is used with a PowerKey Pro, you can control both devices with the PowerKey Editor. See "Using PowerKey Rebound!" in the "Detailed Information" section below for more information.
- Added web-based product registration. When you first open PowerKey Editor, a dialog box will appear which shows the URL of our online registration form. If you have an Internet connection open, you can click a button to open this page automatically.
- Added ability to search the Sophisticated Circuits Tech Info Library using Mac OS 8.5's Internet Find feature (a.k.a. Sherlock).
- The Server Restart Option installer for PowerKey Pro Model 200 didn't appear in the Installer window if the PowerKey software wasn't installed and running ‹ fixed.
- If the "CPU" radio button for PowerKey Pro was changed and the computer crashed before the next normal restart, crash restart Events would sometimes toggle the wrong outlet, or no outlet at all ‹ fixed.
- The "Telephone Activity" check box (PowerKey Pro only) in the "Wait" Action always showed activity until the first time true activity occurred ‹ fixed.
- The PowerKey Editor would crash if you attempted to print a schedule window which was wider than a page ‹ fixed.
- Added support for PowerKey Pro Model 600. Model 600-specific features are described in the Model 600 user manual.
- Deleting Events and Actions is now undoable.
- The value of the PowerKey Pro's Crash Detection Timer (a Preference, only for PowerKey Pro units with SRO) can now be set up to 65535 seconds. This change only affects PowerKey Pro Model 600; on Model 200, higher values will be saved as 1020 seconds.
- Added support for the Server Restart Option for PowerKey Pro. If the PowerKey Pro connected to the computer has the Server Restart Option installed, the PowerKey Editor shows several additional features. See the "READ ME ‹ Server Restart Option" document in this package for more information.
- There is now an "Execute Event" command in the Schedule menu. Choosing this menu item will immediately execute a selected Event, regardless of its Trigger or Qualifiers.
- Added the ability to use default Schedule files. See "Default Schedule Creation" in the "Detailed Information" section below for more information.
- Improved AppleScript support. You can now use AppleScript to execute, suspend and resume events. See the "READ ME ‹ Using AppleScript" document in the "Extras:Scripting PowerKey" folder in this package for more information.
- There are now less restrictions on Shut Down, Start Up and Restart Actions for PowerKey Pro. For example, you can now switch outlets on a PowerKey Pro before and after these Actions. You can also perform multiple Switch Outlets and Wait Actions when the computer isn't running.
- If an Open File or Script Action loses track of its target file (e.g. if you move or rename the file), it replaces its name in the description with "Unknown".
- Removed the "When System Is Running" Qualifier for PowerKey Pro. Since this feature is primarily useful when restarting crashed servers, it has been moved into the Server Restart Option. See the "READ ME ‹ Server Restart Option" document in the PowerKey Pro package for more information.
- The PowerKey software is now PowerPC-native.
- Added a "When System Is Running" Qualifier for PowerKey Pro, which restricts a Trigger to activate only if the computer is (or is not) running normally. NOTE: This Qualifier is now part of the Server Restart Option.
- Added a Sleep System Action, which puts your computer to sleep. This Action operates exactly like the Finder's "Sleep" item in the Special menu.
This section contains information not found in the PowerKey User Manual:
Rebound! and PowerKey Pro
Rebound! uses the same patent-pending crash detection technology as PowerKey Pro. Because of this, the Rebound! software cannot run while the PowerKey version 3.x software is running. Version 3.4 and newer of the PowerKey software will allow you to configure Rebound! from within the PowerKey Editor.
The Rebound! software will disable itself if it detects the PowerKey software running at startup.
