Sophisticated Circuits Announces RetroLog

WOODINVILLE, WASHINGTON, February 7, 2002 -- Sophisticated Circuits, Inc. today announced RetroLog, a free tool that routes messages from Dantz Inc's Retrospect backup software to Sophisticated Circuits monoLog log server utility.

RetroLog makes it easy for you to know exactly what is happening with your backups, where ever that data may be most convenient for you. Retrospect has great internal reporting capabilities on the machine running the Retrospect software. Unfortunately getting to this information can be inconvenient if the backup server is located in a server closet or even in another building.

RetroLog lets you filter the information according to importance, and then route it via email, to your pager, or to a central log file on your computer, so you'll easily know when you need to change a tape or deal with other problems. Retrospect is one of the most important applications available, and RetroLog makes it more convenient to manage -- a huge boon to any operation.

RetroLog also provides direct support for our Rebound crash response technology designed into Kick-off! and Rebound!. RetroLog manages the settings in those products to prevent long delays in the backup process from being interpreted as crashes. RetroLog automatically increases the values when a backup is about to run, then returns them to normal when the backup is complete. By using a higher than normal crash detection value during backups, slow processes such as compressing large files and writing CDs can run without sacrificing crash protection.

RetroLog is both free and open. Written using AppleScript, the open form can be easily customized to fit each installation. RetroLog takes advantage of monoLog's log server capabilities by using the the extensive scriptability built into monoLog and Retrospect. "There is an entire universe of useful applications that can be built using monoLog and AppleScript", stated Jonathan Feinstein of Sophisticated Circuits, "AppleScript is an immensely powerful tool which made the creation of RetroLog an easy task. We are happy to provide RetroLog as an example of the many innovative uses of this technology."
